The unique design of this part provides a lead for ease of mounting (see figure 2) and can be installed into two different types of applications. It can be used to clip onto one surface and make contact with a mating surface that is perpendicular to the mounting surface (see figure 3), or it can make contact with a mating surface that is parallel to the mounting surface (see figure 4). If required, one part can perform both applications at the same time (see figure 5), providing for design flexibility. This part provides a substantial dynamic range and requires minimal compression force in either direction (see figure 1). These parts were specifically designed for small electronic applications where contact with a mating surface perpendicular to the mounting surface is required. Both parts can be easily mounted (figures 2&3) onto flanges ranging from 0.030 to 0.050 inches thick. Dual retaining lances are provided on both items to ensure secure mounting and integrity of desired position.

The need for two different items arises when considering method of deflection. Part number 099-490-06-20 may be compressed by applying force directly down onto the contact finger or by wiping across the length of the strip (transversely) as shown by the arrow in figure 1. Whereas, part number 099-485-06-20 may be compressed by applying force directly down onto the contact finger or by wiping along the length of the strip (longitudinally) as shown by the arrow in figure 4.

For clip-on applications that require a low force, low profile, no-snag shielding gasket, this series of parts is ideal. In order to achieve low compression forces with good resiliency, these parts are made from a thin gage (0.003") copper alloy with a shape designed to give minimal force resistance. Also designed with a low profile (0.070") configuration, these parts are suitable for small gap applications and can be compressed down to 25% of their original height. With the fingers all being attached to form a single edge making contact with the mounting surface, these parts provide excellent no-snag shielding. Manufactured in three mounting sizes, they can be mounted to flanges ranging from 0.025 to 0.075 thick.
